Mitchell Wechsler: Born and raised in New York City, I started performing at an early age, singing in the Children's Chorus at The Metropolitan Opera, attending the Suzuki violin school and eventually starting my trumpet studies while enrolled at LaGuardia High School of Music and Art. I went on, as a scholarship student, to earn Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of Hartford and Rice University respectively. While pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree as a graduate assistant at the University of Georgia, I performed and toured with the Bulldog Brass Society. As a member of the Verbier Festival Orchestra trumpet section, I performed under the baton of James Levine for two summers. Annual tours followed with Maestro Levine and Maestro Paavo Järvi to Europe, North and South America performing on world class stages including Carnegie Hall (USA), Die Philharmonie (Germany), Tonhalle (Switzerland) and Sala Sao Palo (Brazil). I am currently a freelancer appearing with a diverse group of chamber and orchestral ensembles throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. My previous teachers include Armando Ghitalla, Jon Nelson, Chris Gekker, James Pandolfi and Fred Mills. In my Artist Liaison role, for the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, I execute a diverse set of tasks providing support to our senior management, production department, development staff, conductors, soloists, and various guest ensembles. Maintaining a superior standard of excellence, to offer the most appealing artistic product, is my enduring goal in the extraordinary and inspiring world of performing arts.
